The Tango Performance Formula

It’s probably the oldest formula of all time, older than Coca-Cola’s recipe—ha!

To the untrained eye or non-dancers, it’s the most magical, mature, reserved, elegant way to showcase tango. But for everyone else that’s danced beyond 2 years and seen a few hundred performances, it’s predictable as hell! I hate it because it’s so standardized and common that it’s practically become gimmicky. It’s not elegant, it’s not creative, it’s not mature, it’s not the coolest thing on earth. It’s just a couple doing the same thing as every other couple. It’s not improvisation, not musical, and NOT TANGO!

But with that said, I still recommend everyone to learn it. Because it highlights important moments in the dance and teaches you how to be creative in elegant and subtle nuanced ways. It’s also highly recommend for beginners to follow (instead of getting nervous, crapping their pants, and going totally rogue in their first dance performance).
