It’s really important move both arms together as a solid unit during turns (sacadas or enrosques).
What happens if you don’t?
- Your body starts to separate (creating 2 sides) or at least spread itself over a wider range-of-axis. Easier for you to lose balance, easier for your partner to be lost in your ambiguity.
- Your lead weakens as well because now you are no longer one-piece but 2-piece. There’s a chance your separated body has created a 2-piece sensation in your partner’s body as well. This is extra work as you have to lead both of her “pieces” and from both of your “pieces”. Lots of miscommunication opportunity here.
How do you unify both arms during turns?
- Use them both in the lead. It’s a common habit to focus more on the opening side.
- A good tip would be to use the back arm to help push the follower through.
- Try to move in harmony. One side is the “opening” side and the other side is the “closing” or “pushing” side.
