When the pros do it, it’s like the smoothest, quietest, and most powerful free leg drawing a circle. When we (mortals) do it, we shake like a house of cards during an earthquake.
Here are four details I’ve found for a more pro-like lapiz:
- Focus your weight on your standing leg (bend it a little) while holding your hips & upper body still.
- Keep both knees and feet facing forward at all times. Don’t turn out your feet or hips when doing the lapiz.
- Your knees are smoothly extending or smoothly bending throughout the circular motion. Accentuate both the knee-bending and knee-straightening phases of the free leg.
- Point with the big toe of your foot, lightly brushing the ground with it.
