Fixing the Hip Wobble or “Wiggly-Core” Syndrome

I’ve been dealing with this for years and had many teachers say I was shaking my butt too much while dancing or that my core felt invisible while I was doing figures. I’ve narrowed it down to three main issues so far:

  1. Not bending the knees during key moments. When changing weight, you have to bend the new standing leg as you arrive on top of it, or else your hip might sway out to one side.
  2. The other option of not bending the knees is to use more foot press against the ground to project your body straight up and strengthen your axis.
  3. The last option is to solidify your lower back. Think of the left and right of your ribs pushing back against imagination buttons behind you. And keep this visual in mind especially when leading figures, or doing pivots yourself.

By keep your body in the right place, you will not only feel more solid to your partner but also strong and solid within your own axis. This gives you not only a clearer lead but also stronger appearance from the outside.
